Brooks Koepka Withdraws From Charles Schwab Challenge After Busy Stretch

Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from this week's Charles Schwab Challenge after an intense period of playing tournaments on the PGA Tour. The five time major champion decided to pull out shortly after he tied for 14th place at CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas. At the moment, no one has heard of any injury that the player might have suffered, apparently the decision to skip the tournament was made for the purpose of rest and recovery.

Ever since coming back to the PGA Tour this year, Koepka has been the subject of numerous discussions as the leading player of the 2026 season. He dropped out of LIV Golf at the end of 2025 and only in the current season he has already participated in 11 events showing glimpses of top-level form. Although he did not have too many shots to play at the ONE flight Myrtle Beach Classic, the 11th place finish was still commendable. Assistantly, at the Byron Nelson, he was again among the leaders.

This is a huge blow to the organizers at Colonial Country Club as the absence of another big name means a smaller overall field size. According to PGA Tour's Returning Member Program, Koepka's non-appearance results in decreased field size and different alternate list for the tournament. The withdrawal of Wyndham Clark means even more big names will not be seen during the tournament.

Koepka passes up the opportunity to play in the tournament, but it is a good chance for him to focus on the major calendar ahead. It is highly likely that he will be competing in the RBC Canadian Open, and after that, he will switch to the preparing for the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, the scene of his triumph in 2018. Several performances that spring have brought back the enthusiasm of the fans, who believe that Koepka has what it takes to be a very strong candidate during the major championship season.
