Tailgate Tuesday

Quick 2026 U.S. Open Preview at Shinnecock Hills (June 18-21)

The Course: Tough par-70 around 7,440-7,500 yards. Classic linksy setup with wide fairways that bite hard if you miss into fescue, nasty run-offs, and crowned greens that get firm and fast. Wind changes direction all the time — you've gotta shape shots both ways and control distance. Ball-striking and short game win here, not just bombing it. Last time (2018) Koepka won at +1. Expect another grind.

Weather: Coastal winds will be the star. Thursday looks windiest (gusts 30+ mph, possible rain/thunder early — advantage morning starters). Friday better, lighter winds. Weekend in the mid-70s with breezes around 15 mph. Firm conditions likely, rain might soften it a bit but it dries fast. Wind management is key.

Odds & Favorites (current consensus):

  • Scottie Scheffler ~+500 to +550 (clear favorite, chasing career Grand Slam)
  • Rory McIlroy ~+1000-1200
  • Jon Rahm ~+1200-1300
  • Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick ~18-1 to 25-

It's gonna be a low-scoring battle where precision beats power. Scheffler's the guy to beat, but Shinnecock has a way of humbling everyone. Should be fun.
